Aat van der Meer joined DACHSER in 2006. At that time, DACHSER Netherlands had only one branch in Zevenaar, but it was not possible for this branch to grow. A new depot in Waddinxveen, near Rotterdam, would create more opportunities for growth. Aat van der Meer then became the branch manager of DACHSER Waddinxveen. It was his task to set up the new location. The office in Waddinxveen got up to full speed very quickly. The volumes in Zevenaar halved and got more ´space´ for further growth.
In 2007, Aat van der Meer became the managing director of DACHSER Netherlands. In 2009, he also became responsible of DACHSER Belgium. Since 2010, he has been the spokesman for the DACHSER international Branch and Country Managers. In this function, he works closely with the board at the head office in Kempten. 2010 was also the year that the branch in Zevenaar again started having problems with handling the volumes. Expansion in the current building was not possible, so Aat van der Meer decided that moving to a new building was necessary. In September 2012, Aat van der Meer opened one of the biggest DACHSER sites in Europe, apart from Germany, on the Zevenpoort industrial area in Zevenaar.
In the Waddinxveen branch, the demand for warehousing and contract logistics has risen sharply in the last few years, so expansion there was also necessary. This started in November 2012 with the expansion of the site from 20.000 to 25.000 m2. Also the Belgian branch in Willebroek has become too small for the activities of DACHSER and will start this year with the construction of a new terminal in the region of Willebroek.
Since 1 January 2013, Aat van der Meer has also been the managing director of DACHSER Luxembourg.
