DACHSER continues growth in the Benelux

In 2016 Dachser generated in the Benelux a consolidated gross revenue of 243 million euros, representing a consolidated revenue increase of 12.4 percent on the previous year. The number of shipments rose by 6.1 percent and tonnage by 6.8 percent. ''Despite the volatility of the global economy, we were able to maintain our stable market position through organic growth at the previous year’s levels'', says Aat van der Meer, Managing Director Dachser Benelux. ''Last year’s main focus of investments lies on network locations, IT systems, and research and development. The investments over the last few years are clearly paying off.''

Developments in the Netherlands

The logistics service provider also achieved good results in the Netherlands. The gross revenue increased by 14.1 percent, shipments and tonnage increased by 9.1 percent and 9.4 percent, respectively. The growth of DACHSER in the Netherlands is on one hand the result of extended capacities and investments in warehousing and contract logistics and on the other hand, the expansion of the DACHSER network. Although Germany is still one of the major export markets for the Netherlands, the shipments to other European countries were rising. The increase of shipments to Spain and Portugal is one of the positive effects of the acquisition of the Spanish logistics provider Azkar in 2013. By now, Azkar has been fully integrated into the European network of Dachser. Besides, DACHSER recently became majority shareholder of its partner in Ireland, Johnston Logistics Ltd. This allows DACHSER to strengthen its logistics network in northwestern Europe.

In 2013, DACHSER Waddinxveen expanded by 5,000 square meters for crossdocking and warehousing. A further expansion is already being discussed intensively. DACHSER Zevenaar is also developing quickly. After the staff moved into a new larger building in September 2012, the demand for warehousing and contract logistics increased. At the end of 2015 the former building was recommissioned and enlarged with 3,000 for these activities. In April of this year, the municipality Zevenaar signed a purchase agreement with DACHSER for an expansion of 8,103 square meters at BusinessPark 7Poort. The expansion is expected to be ready in the autumn of 2017.

Total package

The divisions road, air and sea freight are corroborating since 2014. There is an increasing demand for a total solution, with close cooperation between the divisions we can offer a completely integrated solution: from air, sea and road transport to warehousing. We want to offer our customers global logistics solutions for distribution and procurement from a single source, what we call DACHSER Interlocking. This creates an efficient way of working and keeps the communication fast and clear. The possibilities are endless with DACHSER Interlocking’’, according to Van der Meer.

Investments on network locations, research and development

Dachser has increased its investments from 125 million euros last year to around 177 million euros in 2017. The main focus of these investments lies on expanding network locations, IT systems, and research and development. ‘’We are intensively studying all aspects of the logistics solutions of the future and the extent to which they can be digitalized. DACHSER has launched group-wide innovation processes at numerous levels in order to maintain its pioneering role in the industry,” according to Van der Meer.

DACHSER invests a lot in its employees. ‘’We have close contact with educational institutions in the region to enthuse young people to a job in the sector. In cooperation with selected education institutions, DACHSER in the Netherlands offers dual majors and practice-oriented study paths with a variety of emphasis areas. We also strengthen the technical and social development and competence of our employees through international assignments -– from young professionals to executives. We present ourselves here with the purpose to inspire students for a career in logistics or an internship or job at DACHSER’’, according to Van der Meer. ‘’Whoever has the youth, has the future”.
