The workers’ union at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) is calling a one-week strike which started today. Carriers are diverting vessels to adjacent terminals which may lead to delays because of the sudden increase in traffic volume.

After the monsoon hit the Indian state of Gujarat severely last week, the rain now also impacts Mumbai’s port Nhava Sheva. Serious traffic congestion has been reported and is supposed to last for approximately one week.

Continuous rainfall caused severe floods in the Indian state Gujarat. The government authorities called in the Army and the Air Force for help. The floodings created disruptions in rail and road transport as well as air and sea freight which will lead to delays in delivery.

Effective July 1, 2016, the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) needs to be put into practice. The convention specifies that shippers are responsible and shall verify on its documentation the Verified Gross Mass of a container prior to it being loaded on board of a vessel.
