DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics

DACHSER has been operating in Belgium in the field of air and sea logistics since 2006. Early 2012 these activities were centralized at a new location in Mechelen and since then growth has been strong. To maintain high quality standards and further growth, the air and sea activities are now located at two sites.

From Mechelen to Willebroek and Zaventem/Brussels

On Monday, February 16, the employees of the airfreight department moved to industrial park Machelen Cargo 740. Being situated in the cargo area of Brussels airport, the center of the international aviation activities in Belgium, gives the company good possibilities to continue a healthy growth.

A week before the move to Brussels, the employees of the sea freight department moved to their brand new building at business park De Hulst in Willebroek. The road transport division already moved in October to this new site which is strategically located at the junction of Antwerp-Brussels and near the port of Antwerp.

According to Wilco Versteegh, Managing Director Air & Sea Logistics in Belgium, the move to Willebroek and Brussels was successful. At the same time, the new IT system for air and sea freight, called Othello, was introduced for the seafreight division. The airfreight department worked already for several months with this advanced system. “Sometimes it was a very intensive job, but with an enthusiastic group of employees, we are now completely ready for the future”, said Versteegh.

On land, at sea and in the air: a single point of contact

The Belgian branches for road transport are located in Mouscron and Willebroek. The proximity of the road transport division at the air and sea freight division provides an ideal opportunity to optimize the existing collaboration between road transport and the air and sea freight services. All under the responsibility of Aat van der Meer, Managing Director DACHSER Benelux.

“The demand for the distribution of incoming goods, as for example from the harbours of Rotterdam and Antwerp, has risen steadily in the recent years. Cross-border flows have become more and more important tu customers and therefore the demand for warehousing has risen as well”, Aat van der Meer says. “With a close cooperation between the two divisions we can offer a completely integrated solution: from air, sea and road transport to warehousing. The benefit here is that customers have a single contact for all their needs. This creates an efficient way of working and keeps the communication fast and clear”, according to van der Meer.
