DACHSER has operated facilities on the Häsfeld/Überherrn industrial estate in the German state of Saarland since 2002. Oliver Wild, general manager of the Saarland logistics center, describes the advantages of the location: “In recent years, many companies have set up shop in Überherrn because it is conveniently located close to three countries, and it offers ideal conditions for production, logistics, and services. This makes it a perfect location for DACHSER’s future growth, too.” In 2016, a contract logistics warehouse covering 11,000 sqm with space for some 22,000 pallets was added to the existing logistics center. Now, barely two years later, this facility is being expanded once more to include some 19,000 sqm of high bay storage and 35,000 pallet spaces as well as an additional 300 sqm of office space—representing a total investment of some EUR 15 million.

German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier attended the opening, where he said: “Thanks to well-developed infrastructure, high-quality logistics technology, and a highly skilled workforce, Germany leads the world as a location for logistics. Indeed, logistics is one of the most important industries in our country. It is the backbone of an economy based on the division of labor, and it is of prime importance to an economy like Germany’s. And DACHSER plays an outstanding role in this.”

Anke Rehlinger, Saarland’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Employment, Energy, and Transport, who also visited the new facilities, said: “Strong logistics companies are an indispensable factor for competitive business locations. Saarland, with its central location at the heart of Europe and a strong export sector, definitely needs a robust logistics industry. Companies like DACHSER that are constantly refining their portfolio of services are an essential partner for businesses here. And this investment to expand the logistics center is a clear statement of support for Saarland as a place to do business. I wish DACHSER every success for the future!”

Überherrn location plays a special role in the DACHSER network

DACHSER’s European network offers a combination of warehousing expertise and short transportation times that is convincing more and more companies to enter into tailored contract logistics partnerships. Such arrangements cover several logistics functions, such as transportation, terminal handling, storage, and additional services. Alexander Tonn, Managing Director European Logistics Germany at DACHSER, says: “Logistics has long since become a crucial factor in the success of manufacturing companies. That’s why DACHSER has spent years investing in its contract logistics services and is planning to expand its logistics centers, as it has now here in Überherrn.”

The Überherrn location plays a special role in the DACHSER network: In addition to regular branch operations by day, the logistics center serves as a Eurohub by night—one of three major DACHSER hubs for European groupage handling. Daily departures to a current total of 339 locations across Europe guarantee transit times of 24 to 48 hours. Some 660 employees are responsible for ensuring smooth execution of approximately 71,800 metric tons in monthly transit volume. European shipments dovetail with the services of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics, which also maintains a presence at the Überherrn branch.
