Celebrations were held yesterday as logistics provider DACHSER opened a new warehouse at its logistics center in Hörsching near Linz, Austria. The new building is a contract logistics warehouse with a storage and logistics area of 10,000 square meters with 20,000 pallet spaces. From its Hörsching location, DACHSER now offers customers everything from a single source: warehousing and customized contract logistics services and a direct connection to the seamless European transport network and air and sea freight services by DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics.

Some 170 guests accepted the invitation to attend the event in Hörsching, which was opened by DACHSER CEO Bernhard Simon. “The new warehouse is another milestone in the expansion of our Austrian branch network. But its significance stretches far beyond the country’s borders—as a European logistics hub, DACHSER Austria has for many years been a linchpin in DACHSER’s overall network,” Simon said in his opening speech.

Günter Hirschbeck, Managing Director DACHSER Austria European Logistics, also spoke at the event: “At our new warehouse, we implement logistics concepts and custom solutions for our customers. In doing so, we connect our European Logistics and Air & Sea Logistics business units with one another. At DACHSER we call this interlocking, and our customers benefit from lean, integrated processes. As a family-owned company, we have close ties within the region through our Hörsching location, and it is creating about 30 new jobs.”

Opened in 2008, the Hörsching Logistics Center has an 8,000-square-meter transit terminal and a four-story office and administration building. The new warehouse was built onto the existing transit terminal and the site offers scope for further additions.

Digitalization and virtual reality in Linz

Guests at the event had the opportunity to don a pair of virtual reality goggles and immerse themselves in a 3D visualization of warehouse processes. Providing high-resolution images and a virtual tour of the warehouse, the goggles improve process transparency and offer planning certainty. The event finished with a question and answer session on digitalization within the logistics sector, led by Professor Sebastian Kummer, Chair of the Institute for Transport and Logistics Management at Vienna University of Economics and Business, and Bernhard Simon.

With ten locations in Austria, DACHSER has a strong branch network with which to offer its customers ideal market proximity. DACHSER Austria plays a vital role as a logistics hub for Europe and the Hörsching location delivers precision-timed shipments throughout the continent.
