The story of a career: From Kühne+Nagel to Panalpina to DACHSER

Robert Erni was born in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1966. He studied at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. After completing his studies, he began his career in 1989 as an internal auditor at the logistics group Kühne+Nagel. Erni was heavily involved in the group’s international expansion over a period of ten years, holding various top management positions in Hong Kong, India, Argentina, and the US. From 2004 to 2013, he assumed various management roles in finance at Kühne+Nagel’s headquarters, including in global reporting/consolidation and treasury, as well as heading global controlling for the logistics company. In 2013, he accepted the position of Group Chief Financial Officer at Panalpina, a listed logistics provider headquartered in Switzerland. Among other achievements, Erni oversaw the merger with the Danish logistics group DSV and successfully completed two major SAP rollouts as well as various acquisition projects. He thus played a key role in driving the company’s global growth strategy. Robert Erni has been CFO at DACHSER since January 2021. He succeeded Burkhard Eling, who became DACHSER’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) that same month.
