True greatness comes from each other.

Foresight shows true greatness

As a globally-operating logistics services provider, active and intelligent environmental protection is of highest priority for us. A significant contribution in this regard is made by the efficient design of all process chains as part of our procurement and distribution logistics.
We save energy, thus protecting the environment, where and whenever possible.

Based on extremely well thought-out, synchronised freight transport schedules, we consolidate the flow of goods and are able to avoid needless transports. Our responsibility for nature and humanity is also evident through numerous intelligent and innovative measures: We want to provide our industry with new momentum with our endowed Chair for Sustainable Logistics & Supply Chain Management at the European Business School. We conduct intensive sustainability research with a focus on logistics at this location. This includes, among other things, research on how sustainability goals can be made measurable and therefore controllable, or how processes for the implementation of logistics strategies can be designed more intelligently, and as a result more successfully.

Improved utilisation of vehicles

"Think more, drive less" - that is our motto. We ensure the optimal utilisation of our vehicles with regular transport schedules and the use of double-deck loading. The separation of vehicle and cargo space with the help of a swap body allows more compact loading and at the same time increases transport efficiency due to shorter waiting times.

Intelligent IT in service of the environment

Thanks to our IT-optimised route planning, we ensure optimal utilisation of our transport fleet, reduce traffic and thereby the CO2 emissions of our transports. To avoid unnecessary routes and travel times, we have developed a number of IT-supported information systems. We are currently able to calculate our CO2 emissions in detail and can take sensible steps to minimise them with our data structure. We promote paperless logistics, particularly with our online application, eLogistics, which provides our customers with comprehensive information on their shipment.

NV-online and intelligent scanners reduce the internal use of paper to a minimum; 90% of our consignment receipts are already digitised via Penkey and placed into the optical archive for retrieval. When the use of paper is unavoidable, we use environmentally friendly cellulose products. Our company brochures, for instance, are printed on FSC-certified paper. The GreenIT Best Practice Award 2010 in the "Energy Efficient Systems" category confirms our commitment. We were one of the first global logistics services providers to have the security of our worldwide IT network certified according to ISO 27001, the internationally recognised standard for information security

Active minimisation of emissions

With state-of-the-art vehicles, DACHSER keeps the emission of CO2 as low as possible from the beginning. We do this independently of federal incentive programmes or applicable legal provisions.

Active pallet exchange

Our intelligently organised pallet exchange via an IT-supported credit system contributes significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions as well. The "reusable packaging" can be used three to five times.

Operation of electric forklift trucks

We use electric-powered forklifts to reduce CO2 emissions.

The highest quality standards

In the "DACHSER Food Logistics" business division, the reduction of CO2 emissions already occurs for economic reasons. Here, we only utilise vehicles that are suitable for frozen food with a heat insulated structure pursuant to DIN 8959 or ATP-approval. Our temperature sensors are regularly serviced and calibrated pursuant to EN 13468. These measures ensure a closed cold chain throughout the entire transport - and therefore compliance with hygiene regulations. This virtually precludes the spoilage of goods and repeated transport with the respective CO2 emissions.

Use instead of waste

Avoiding packaging waste is a large component of our environmental initiative, so we only use reusable or recyclable transport packaging in our branches. We also outsource the disposal of unusable IT equipment to certified specialised companies.

We ensure safety

Our dangerous goods warehouses meet all environmental standards, as well as the highest safety standards. In order to minimise the risk to people and the environment, we give priority to transshipments of dangerous substances or substances hazardous to water. For each transport, we ensure the highest quality during loading and securing of the cargo, as well as active road safety. This due diligence applies to all our transports, by the way.

Additional measures for the protection of environment and climate

We optimise the energy balance of our office buildings and logistics centres. All DACHSER branches are already equipped with lighting control systems for the interior hallways and rooms; motion sensors activate flushing of the toilets and water connections in the commercial area. At the same time, all precipitation water from rain and snow is fed into the groundwater.

Our truck washers use rainwater and utilise water recovery systems. In our transit halls for food logistics, modern interior loading docks with sectional doors that are flush to the ground and inflatable door seals prevent the uncontrolled loss of heat. We use predominantly natural cooling agents in our coolers and promote the replacement of ozone-depleting cooling agents worldwide.

CO2 standards

DIN Commission for CO2 Standards (DIN EN 16258:2011)
The DIN commission deals with the development of a European standard for the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions and the energy consumption of transport services. Comparable, transparent and standardised CO2 reporting is developed with the help of this standard.

As a member of the German task force for the CO2 standard, we actively participate in the design of a Europe-wide standard for the measurement of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for transport services. Through participation in the creation of the standard, we acquire important know-how regarding environmental resource management and also apply our long-term experience.

European Business School
