Sea freight to India on Pre-Paid (PP) Basis

Declaration of Importer’s Import-Export code Number (IEC number), Goods & Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) & email Address on Bill of Lading (B/L) for Shipments to Nhava Sheva from 1st April, 2018.

Indian Customs launched public notice 33/2018 dated 7th March, 2018, has made it mandatory that especially for pre-paid sea freight shipments to India – currently Nhava Sheva only – the following additional information provided by the shipper must be mentioned on every bill of lading issued at the origin port overseas with effect from April 1, 2018 (B/L-release date):

• Import-Export code Number (IEC number)
• Goods & Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN)
• Official email ID of the importer

This is currently only subject for shipments arriving at, and with final destination Nhava Sheva (other ports and ICDs may be included at a later date). This regulation is being implemented on the account of the following matters:

• To bring down the instances of fraudulent exports, dumping of environmentally hazardous waste/material in India
• To improve on import clearance and delivery times
• To simplify the Direct Port Delivery (DPD) of cargo
