Strike at Frankfurt Airport

The union of the Ground Handling Agent in Frankfurt Airport (Main) has called out a strike starting from Thursday, November 23rd, 4:00 a.m. local time, until Friday, November 24th, 6:30 a.m. local time. Cargo handling service at the airport is severely affected, therefore major delays are expected.

The current situation at the Frankfurt Airport remains strained and critical due to ongoing strike actions of the Ground Handling Agents.

Conciliation talks between all participants already took place during the past weeks. Frankfurt Airport representatives were also involved to implement possible measures for corrective measures to reduce an upcoming backlog at the Airport Frankfurt.

Since solution has not been found yet, the union has called out for a strike. According to the latest information, the cargo handling of Frankfurt Cargo Services GmbH and LUG Cargo Handling will be affected. For the time being, further strike actions cannot be precluded.

The high freight volume together with seasonal peaks makes the situation more challenging, therefore major delays in cargo handling is expected.

The DACHSER team is working continuously on alternative solutions to represent our customer’s interests in the best way and avoid delays as far as possible.

The following actions have also been taken:
-Increase departures from other European hubs (e.g. AMS, CDG, LGG, LUX)
-Own charter capacity Europe from China, departure at LGG
-Direct pallet transfer to airports to avoid cargo handling in Frankfurt
-Close and ongoing coordination with airlines to enable a short-term reaction
