DACHSER is investing more than EUR 20 million in an expansion of its existing logistics center in Malsch, near Karlsruhe. Construction work on a new high bay storage facility covering 21,800 square meters and with approx. 43,000 pallet spaces is in full swing. The specially equipped facility is also designed to permit the safe storage of chemical products and hazardous materials such as paints, coatings, and adhesives. The facility will become operational in the first quarter of 2019.
This year, the logistics provider will be organizing charter flights for the Frankfurt—Shanghai—Frankfurt route again, thus offering customers in central Europe and China weekly round trips during air freight’s peak season.
DACHSER has been honored with the German CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Award, presented by the German CSR Forum, in the “engagement for the civil society” category. Bernhard Simon, CEO of DACHSER SE, and Edgar Marsh, Chairman of the Presidium of terre des hommes Germany, accepted the award from the jury foreperson for this category, Brigitta Wortmann, a member of the Board of Speakers for Germany’s National Network for Civil Society.
As of September 1st, logistics provider DACHSER has more employees than at any other point in its history: approximately 30,500 people around the world are employed by the family-owned company based in Kempten in Allgäu, Germany; that same country is home to 16,246 of those employees. This year, 732 young people have chosen to train or study with DACHSER in Germany—the largest number ever.

Market Information

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is taking initiative to promote sustainability and reduce harmful sulphur gas emissions. While the new regulation will be fully enforced in 2020, it will likely impact logistics cost for shippers in the second half of 2019 due to investments on the carriers’ side.
