Winter Weather impacts East Coast

A major winter storm and below freezing temperatures are affecting freight movements across a wide area of the Eastern U.S. The seaports from Savannah to Boston were closed, thousands of flights cancelled and major roads from Virginia to Maine were too dangerous for trucks to operate.

Winter Weather impacts East Coast

Already tight truck capacity will likely worsen with continuous severe winter weather in the coming weeks. Efforts are currently underway to reopen the seaports. Here the latest updates:

Norfolk, VA
- Truck gates closed at NIT, VIG, PMT, NNMT and the PPCY - plan to re-open January 6th
- Richmond Marine Terminal – re-opens at 1pm EST
- Virginia Inland Port is open

Port of NY/NJ
- All facilities are open and operating, however low temperatures and high winds will impact operations.

Boston-Conley
- Conley Terminal Gate will be closed January 5th. Reopening January 8th.

Charleston
- Re-opened at 1pm EST on January 4th with limited hours on January 5th. Extended hours added for January 6th to cope with backlog.

Savannah and Brunswick
- Re-opened on January 4th.

After closing early on January 4th, our DACHSER USA offices in New York and Boston are operational again today.

Shipments will be impacted due to the on-going winter weather and delays are expected. Please contact your local DACHSER representative with any questions.
