DACHSER expands its Vienna branch

DACHSER is expanding its Vienna logistics center and investing around 25 million euros in the expansion of its logistics capacities. Following the expansion and extension, DACHSER will have a total of 12,470 square meters of space in the industrial and consumer goods sector at its Himberg location. Commissioning of the expanded space is scheduled for mid-December 2023.

DACHSER has been active on the Austrian market since 1995; in 2008, the Vienna logistics center was put into operation in addition to the Linz location. After 15 years, the location with its transshipment warehouse and two-story office and administration building became too small, and the need arose for an expansion such as a modernization of the logistics facility. Extensive construction work began in March.

Currently, the transshipment warehouse is 7,150 square meters in size and has 80 gates. In the coming months, this will be expanded by 5,320 square meters of handling space, just under 800 square meters of integrated office space and 48 gates, so that the total area of the warehouse expansion will then be 12,470 square meters with 128 gates. The roof area of the new building is being prepared for a photovoltaic system so that the electricity generated from it can later be used, among other things, to operate the plant.

In addition to a further 99 parking spaces for employees, the site expansion also includes 110 new swap body parking spaces, a transporter parking area with 118 spaces, a porter's building and the company's own service station.

The investments also include preparations for the use of electrically powered vehicles. For this purpose, 34 charging points for electric cars and three charging points for electric trucks are being built.

Almost 200 people are currently employed at the DACHSER branch in Himberg. In the medium term, up to 20 industrial and commercial jobs will be created at the location.

Ready for the future

With this additional capacity, the Vienna location is ready for the future. "The growth of our European groupage activities, which was the reason for founding the company in Austria in 2004, has continued, and now the time has come for the second construction phase," says Manfred Dolezal, Deputy General Manager of the DACHSER branch in Himberg. "The commitment and logistical expertise of our employees are an important part of this success." Construction work began in March and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
