DACHSER expands logistics capacity in Hannover region

New warehouse in Langenhagen to meet high demand

DACHSER has opened a new warehouse location in Langenhagen near Hannover. The facility has a total floor space of 11,800 m2. Starting this summer, DACHSER will offer its industrial customers a wide range of warehouse and transport services at this location.

Half the warehouse’s 9,500 m2 can be used for block stacking. The other half of the hall provides racks for 8,700 pallets. There are eleven docking gates for loading and unloading trucks. In addition, there are two docking gates for vans and two level-access gates for loading and unloading bulky goods. The hall also features some 800 m2 of office space. A mezzanine in the front part of the warehouse offers another 1,500 m2 of logistics space. This is where value-added services such as finishing, labeling, and individual order picking are carried out.

The further expansion of warehouse capacity once again highlights the significance of this location

Located near the airport, close to DACHSER’s Hannover logistics center, the new warehouse location is part of an industrial park called “Alpha Industrial Gewerbepark Langenhagen.” “There is high demand for storage areas and logistics services in the greater Hannover area. That demand has increased as a consequence of global supply chains being affected by the pandemic,” says Aleksandar Beslic, Branch Manager European Logistics at DACHSER’s Hannover logistics center. “The new warehouse location allows us to be very flexible in meeting the various needs of our customers. This expansion of capacity is an important step for our development in the region.”

Flexible, with good connections

The new facility functions as a multi-user warehouse. It will be used to store goods from various new and existing industrial customers. This includes the storage of hazardous materials, so 1,350 pallet spaces have been fitted with in-rack sprinkler systems. A customs warehouse license for temporary storage allows for additional flexibility at the location.

On nearby Kemptener Strasse, close to the airport, DACHSER has been running its Hannover logistics center for over twenty years. The center handles industrial and commercial goods (European Logistics), food (Food Logistics), and air and sea fright (Air and Sea Logistics). In total, DACHSER currently employs some 500 people in Langenhagen. “Hannover-Langenhagen is one of the key nodes in our network. DACHSER annually processes more than 1.3 million shipments there. The further expansion of warehouse capacity once again highlights the significance of this location,” says Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics at DACHSER. “Located at Hannover Airport, close to the A7 and A2 highways, and not far from the two major seaports of Hamburg and Bremen, our Hannover logistics center has exceptionally good connections to DACHSER’s worldwide logistics network as well as to global procurement and distribution markets.”

The industrial park in Langenhagen, including the new warehouse, was realized by nationwide operating real estate investor and project developer Alpha Industrial and meets a range of sustainability criteria. Floor-to-ceiling windows and a great number of additional apertures provide more natural light. Add to that green roofs, LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations, bicycle racks with a photovoltaic roof, a fountain for irrigating the green roofs and other green spaces, and a meadow orchard with native species.

"We are very pleased to be able to support DACHSER in expanding its capacities with our modern industrial park in the Hanover region and look forward to a long-term cooperation," says Ulrich Wörner, Managing Director of Alpha Industrial Advisors GmbH. Unlike many other project developers, the family office will keep the "Alpha Industrial Gewerbepark Langenhagen" in its own portfolio and manage it itself.
