Through India by train

DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics developed an efficient multimodal solution to transport special containers with aluminum silos from the Netherlands to India: first by ship, and then in a block train in India. The containers traveled the final stage to their destination by truck.

The teams from DACHSER took care of the smooth planning and execution of this complex transport endeavor.

The approximately 45 forty-foot equivalent units (FEUs) began their journey in the Netherlands. To get to their destination, a company in India’s petrochemical industry, they had to switch between means of transport several times. They started on a container ship in Rotterdam port in Netherlands, bound for Mundra Port on the north shores of the Gulf of Kutch in northwestern India. From there, the team from DACHSER India took over and organized the onward journey in a block train with a length of about 2,000 feet. After a trip of over 1,300 kilometers by rail, the containers reached Sahnewal, a small city in the district of Ludhiana. The final stage was done by truck.

Optimizing the logistics balance sheet

“With this transport concept, we were able to offer the customer a tailored solution adapted to the volume and size of the goods – and we did it across several continents,” says Huned Gandhi, Managing Director Air & Sea Logistics for the Indian subcontinent. The teams from DACHSER Netherlands and the sea freight experts from DACHSER in Delhi took care of the smooth planning and execution of this complex transport endeavor. DACHSER also handled the customs modalities.

“With this port-to-door service, we’ve developed an efficient and reliable solution in which the various teams from DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics worked together hand in hand. This service helps optimize our customer’s logistics balance sheet,” Ghandi says. Until the project is completed, DACHSER will organize the transport of a total of 350 forty-foot equivalent units for the customer.
