“Digitally connected – operationally excellent”: True to this motto, the logistics company is creating safe, efficient, and flexible delivery chains for the chemical industry.

Digitalization will change the industry

Integrated IT systems play an important role here. “Digitalization will change the industry,” says Michael Kriegel, Department Head DACHSER Chem-Logistics. “Chemical products, which are subject to very specific requirements during transport and storage, present major challenges to data quality and availability. At our trade fair booth in section C01 we look forward to discussing with customers and partners how the chemical supply chains of the future will function.”

Transport and logistics partner to the chemical industry

Expertise in handling dangerous goods is a top priority at DACHSER, which is an important reason why the company has been a partner for many years to the chemical industry association Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V. (VCI). Within its European overland transport network for groupage, DACHSER moved almost 3.2 million shipments for the chemical industry in 2016. And that does not include the warehouses that are specifically designed for storing dangerous goods. The DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics business field also links up the global procurement and sales markets with the European overland transport network.

DACHSER Road Logistics and DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics have implemented a centralized dangerous goods management system, and one of its tasks is the transfer of knowledge. Regular training sessions make sure that all 180 regional dangerous goods officers are always up to date about regulations for the various carriers. This gives DACHSER specialized expertise at all levels.

Twenty-three DACHSER locations in Germany, Denmark, France, Austria, Spain, Romania, and Hungary are currently being evaluated according to the SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment for Sustainability) survey conducted by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) in the modules of transport service and/or warehouse.

Industry-specific solution for the chemical industry

With the arrival of DACHSER Chem-Logistics, the logistics provider has finally created a specialized industry solution that is custom-made for the requirements of the chemical industry. To achieve this, DACHSER has combined its standardized core services in its groupage network—transport, warehousing, and IT solutions—with specific performance elements for manufacturers of chemical products. A central team made up of industry experts advises the branch offices as a resource for companies in the chemical industry.

“We bring logistics and digitalization together and also speak the language of the chemical industry—visitors to our booth at the “Gefahrgut & Gefahrstoff” trade fair are invited to come see for themselves,” says Michael Kriegel.
