New contract logistics warehouse in Hong Kong

DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics has relocated its previous warehouse in Hong Kong. The new site offers the logistics provider 2,800 m2 on which to carry out contract logistics services for its customers.

The new location of the DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics warehouse in Hong Kong features 500 pallet spaces and 14,000 in racks on 2,800 m².

Located in a northern district of Hong Kong, the site of the new warehouse offers strategic advantages. The facility features more than 500 pallet spaces on the ground and a further 14,000 in racks. It is staffed by a total of 17 people. The warehouse stores mainly electronic components, mechanical parts, and lighting products. In addition to warehousing, DACHSER also offers contract logistics services, such as value-added services and import/export processing, from the new Hong Kong facility. The company has also staffed the site with employees who are experts in pick & pack.

Accessibility to markets

The new warehouse benefits from its prime location, offering short regional and international transit times that allow DACHSER to quickly process goods flows between Hong Kong and major Asian capitals. “Under normal conditions, from our Hong Kong warehouse we can reach B2B and B2C customers as well as domestic airports and seaports within one hour,” says Alex Wong, Contract Logistics Manager Hong Kong at DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics.

As a free port, Hong Kong enjoys certain geographical advantages and is a major logistics hub in the Asia-Pacific region. Its proximity to the Chinese mainland also makes it a key hub for connecting Chinese manufacturers to European and US markets, while straightforward customs procedures further enhance the location’s appeal. DACHSER has been operating a warehouse specially designed for contract logistics in Hong Kong since 2014.

New regulatory requirements for lithium batteries and cells as of January 1, 2020

Before lithium batteries and cells can be transported, they must pass certain tests. These tests simulate various conditions with regard to, for example, pressure, temperature, crushing and impact that may arise during shipping.

On January 1, 2020, more stringent requirements concerning lithium batteries and cells will come into effect for all modes of transport worldwide. In future, a test summary compliant with UN 38.3.5 must be submitted for all lithium batteries and cells manufactured after June 30, 2003 (i.e. UN3480, UN3481, UN3091, UN3090), as well as for all battery-powered vehicles manufactured after June 30, 2003 (i.e. UN 3171). Doing so will be the joint responsibility of the manufacturers and the distributors of these goods.

According to the airlines, carriers and shipping companies, these documents can be requested from DACHSER. We therefore kindly ask our customers to make these documents available to us for all the lithium batteries and cells mentioned, so that we can, in turn, make them available throughout the entire supply chain. We hereby inform our customers that, as of January 1, 2020, it will no longer be possible to load the affected goods without these documents. Safety through visibility

This year, a new flashing light concept was rolled out to improve the visibility of DACHSER trucks. Affixed to the sides of the trailers, these additional flashing lights help minimize the risk of accidents when trucks are turning—in particular during the darker months of the year. They flash whenever the driver activates the indicator.
